IGNITE STEAM Passion Event
IGNITE STEAM
The IGNITE STEAM Passion Event was successfully conducted as an intensive professional development workshop aimed at empowering teachers with practical insights into integrating STEM education within the K–12 curriculum, in alignment with NCF 2023. The event focused on emerging domains such as Robotics, Coding, Automation, and Artificial Intelligence, enabling educators to experience hands-on, application-oriented learning.
Designed as an experiential workshop, the event brought together 181 teachers from 38 schools, supported by 25 staff members, creating a vibrant learning environment that encouraged exploration, interaction, and dialogue. The workshop was organised by IDF and held on Saturday, 29 June 2024, at the Chandra Seminar Hall, PSGR Krishnammal College for Women, Coimbatore, in association with IDF.
Purpose and Focus
The core objective of the IGNITE STEAM Passion Event was to:
- Provide teachers with practical exposure to STEAM tools and methodologies
- Demonstrate how robotics, automation, coding, and AI can be meaningfully integrated into classroom practice
- Enable educators to align STEM initiatives with the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2023
- Build confidence among teachers to adopt experiential and inquiry-based learning approaches
Programme Highlights
The programme was structured to balance expert input with hands-on engagement and included:
- A foundational presentation introducing STEAM integration concepts
- Interactive activity sessions focusing on TOF (Theory of Functions) and Environment Modules
- Distribution of STEAM kits to teachers, followed by guided activity replication
- A detailed session on school partnership models and implementation pathways
A key highlight of the event was the one-to-one, hands-on interaction with STEAM kits, which significantly enhanced teacher engagement and understanding.
Participation and Engagement
- Participants: 181 Teachers
- Schools Represented: 38
- Complimentary Workshops Booked On-site: 18
- Total Supporting Staff: 25
Teacher participation was active and enthusiastic, particularly during the hands-on activity segments. Many educators expressed strong interest in conducting similar workshops at their respective schools, subject to institutional approvals.
Outcomes and Impact
The event generated tangible outcomes, including:
- 18 complimentary workshops confirmed during the event itself
- Strong interest from additional schools, with follow-up pending administrative approvals
- Increased teacher confidence after personally experiencing STEAM tools and activities
Teachers reported that direct interaction with the kits helped them better visualise classroom applications and student engagement possibilities.
Key Learnings and Observations
The event provided valuable insights for strengthening future STEAM initiatives:
-
- Hands-on engagement proved far more impactful than stage demonstrations
- Clearer storytelling around real-life applications enhances understanding and recall
- Structured systems for kit handling, registration, and movement are essential
- Dedicated time and planning for networking and relationship-building significantly improves outcomes
- Visual branding and presentation design play a critical role in audience engagement
These learnings are being actively incorporated into improved event design and execution frameworks.
Conclusion
The IGNITE STEAM Passion Event served as an important learning milestone in engaging educators with future-ready STEAM education practices. While the event highlighted areas for improvement in presentation and logistics, it clearly demonstrated that experiential, hands-on learning is the most effective way to inspire teachers and drive adoption.
The insights gained from this event are now guiding refinements in programme structure, team training, and operational processes, ensuring that future IGNITE STEAM initiatives deliver even stronger impact, clarity, and value to participating schools and educators.
